Hyperventilation in Anxiety Attack
Report
Sinus tachycardia 144/min
Right axis deviation +95o, borderline for age
Right atrial abnormality
Late transition
Nonspecific ST/T changes
Comment:
The ECG is also consistent with cor pulmonale. Tachycardia per se increases the amplitude of the P wave, with attendant PTA displacement; du reste, hyperventilation can cause practically any ST/T changes.
The PaO2, on ‘room air’ was 111 mmHg, PCO2 14 and the pH 7.56. The chest X-ray and thyroid function tests were normal. Reassurance and a paper bag cured her.
