Thyrotoxicosis
Report:
Supraventricular tachycardia 215/min
Comment:
Somewhat unusual first presentation of thyrotoxicosis; not even spectacularly fast. However, following adenosine-induced reversion to sinus rhythm, she remained quite tachycardic (Fig 94a) and thyroid function tests were ordered. Then, other signs of Graves’ (Basedow’s) disease were noted. “You only see what you look for...”
The sinus tachycardia ECG has an RAA; this may be from tachycardia per se. Normal QRS and repolarisation hint that the tachycardia may be due to an extracardiac cause.
